this is me

I was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee. My younger brothers, Roy and Luke, are artists and musicians. Our parents, Thom and Sarah, worked out of our home—our dad as a songwriter and our mom as a painter and calligrapher—and this shaped our family in really positive ways. I love to solve problems and to work with my hands. I have a B.F.A. in Fibers from the Appalachian Center for Craft in Tennessee, which gave me opportunities to do both. I received my M.Div from Union Theological Seminary in New York City, with a concentration in ritual and worship, which cultivated both the artist and activist in me. I believe art and ritual are important for what they can dream for us, places to practice what we wish was true, but is not yet true.

I have just moved to Managua, Nicaragua, where I am working as part of a regional food security program that prioritizes economic development, sustainable agriculture and women’s empowerment in poor, rural communities across the country. I’ve got a lot to learn from these Nica communities with whom I’m sharing work and life! In my spare time, I like to eat, cook and grow food. I also love taking pictures, practicing guitar, watching baseball and getting letters in the mail.
